A Romani from Suceava won before the ECHR against the Romanian state

Romania was convicted by the ECHR for bad treatments to a Romani and ethnic discrimination. The state should pay 15.000 euros to a young person from Suceava County. The Court found he was beaten, at 12 years old, by the police officers, for being Romani. It happened in 2001, when police officers and public law enforcement officers started arguing with a Romani. The dispute degenerated into a fight, during which, a 12 years old child got involved. The boy was then undergoing chemotherapy, following brain surgery. Because of the lesions, he was to spend his following years in a hospital. His family filed then a complaint, but the prosecutors in the Military Prosecutor’s Office decided not to pursue indictment. In 2002, the family filed a complaint before the ECHR. Tow days ago, the Court decided that the Romanian state pay 15.000 euros damages to the said family.
